What is Tonicity?

Quality.

Possessing tone is more than fitness—tonicity is a way of being that can change the entire quality of your life.

Power.

In linguistics, tonicity identifies the importance of information through emphasis on a word or syllable. What we emphasize in our lives matters.

Home.

The tonic chord in a piece of music is also known as the home or root chord, which brings resolution and stability. Strong roots make growth possible.

Attunement.

An attuned body is built through your commitment to yourself and our help getting you there.

Our Team

Samantha Silva, Founder and Licensed Massage Therapist

Sam is a Licensed Massage Therapist who has undergone thorough training in anatomy and various massage modalities. She’s also a certified hatha yoga instructor with a deep understanding of how to apply breathwork in her massage practice. A spirited adventurer at heart, Sam has lived in many places throughout her life, including the balmy beaches of Florida, amidst the bright lights of Las Vegas, and in the Southern California desert before finally settling in Portland, Oregon. When she’s not at work helping executives, leaders, and other business owners feel more at home in their bodies, Sam can be found at the gym, visiting her brother and beloved nieces, or walking the next steps on her path to personal and spiritual growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Book Your Bodywork

What type of massage therapy do you provide?

Every client has unique needs. The luxury service provided at Tonicity includes a discussion of your specific issues and the development of a holistic plan to reduce pain, enhance mobility, and awaken a sense of spaciousness and possibility in your body. Modalities used may include Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, trigger-point therapy, myofascial release, neuromuscular reeducation, cupping, and recommended exercises and stretches to do at home. Our treatment is customized to your goals.

I’m a very busy person. Why should I get a massage?

Massage therapy can help maintain muscle balance and flexibility and reduce tension. This helps reduce the likelihood of pain recurring, especially if coupled with exercises or stretches to supplement your routine between bodywork sessions. Getting your body in alignment creates space and strength for you to achieve your goals.

How does bodywork help if I’m at a desk all day?

Sitting at a desk is among the leading causes of lower back problems, hip flexor tightness, and strain to the neck and shoulders. Sciatic pain and other types of nerve pain are also common among people who sit at desks every day. Massage offers relief by reducing muscle tension, promoting blood circulation, and releasing endorphins to alleviate pain and discomfort. Relaxing the muscles helps provide relief from inflammation and pressure on surrounding nerves.

Do you take insurance?

Tonicity accepts HSA cards as a form of payment. We are also able to provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Are you trauma-informed?

Yes. We have worked with clients who have complex histories, including trauma. Your appointment will always begin with a confidential discussion of any issues important to your treatment.

“I have been seeing Samantha for over 2 years. Before meeting her, I was receiving massage therapy weekly for chronic neck and back pain (h/o cervical fusion, rotator cuff injuries, 3 knee reconstructions) that would only provide short-term relief. Since seeing Samantha, I have seen a far better degree of functional restoration and pain relief — she routinely finds and targets trouble spots and really makes sure I’m feeling better by the end of the session. I have now been able to space out my frequency of massage therapy to 2-4 weeks which is a good sign that it’s helping! Highly recommend!”

“Samantha is amazing. Her guidance on physical activity and therapeutic touch has changed my life for the better. It had been years since I tolerated running and after three massages with Sam I am running again.”

“Sam does an excellent job of finding which muscles are knotted and always leaves me with greater mobility than she found me. In addition to the massage, she also recommends specific exercises and stretches that help keep me in better shape between massages. I've been able to be so much more active thanks to her skilled work.”

“I can't say enough good things about Sam. Five years ago, I started seeing her as a monthly treat—90 minutes just for me to help manage the stress of juggling work, family, and friends.

After just a few sessions, I knew my husband needed to experience her magic too. He'd been living with chronic pain for over a decade following a serious accident, and I hoped she might be able to help.

Five years later, we're both still devoted clients. I see Sam regularly (weekly during the especially hectic months of November and December), and our appointments have become non-negotiable time for self-care. As someone who travels constantly for work, Sam keeps me flexible, active, and grounded—no small feat given my schedule.

But here's the real testament to how incredible she is: everyone I know goes to see her now. Even my parents and in-laws schedule appointments with her when they're in town visiting the grandkids. They need it too!

Sam's office has become a refuge for my husband and me—a sacred space where we prioritize taking care of ourselves. Beyond her exceptional technical skill, Sam has an intuitive gift for knowing exactly what I need to hear on any given day. She cares for the whole person, not just the body.

Simply put, she's the best massage therapist on earth.”
